TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A representative of the Law and Human Rights Ministry announced that it will crack down on the existence of luxury prison cells and wardens with unnatural wealth, which is an issue that has gone viral on social platforms.

The deputy minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej on Tuesday said that prison wardens must be responsible for such issues at hand.

“The cases are being looked into under an inquiry. What I am trying to say is that we should avert making assumptions before the process is complete,” said Edward at the Ministry’s headquarter on May 2. “It would be better to wait for the investigation results if anything was violated, trust us that the Ministry will act firmly.”

The Public chastised the warden of the Rajabasa Penitentiary located in Bandar Lampung, Dhawank Delvi, after the warden’s lavish lifedata-style was uncovered on social media. Many online users highlighted the warden’s ownership of vehicles and properties that do not fit his income as a warden.

The Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly previously also mentioned the alleged monopoly done by Dhawank over the penitentiary’s canteen and cooperative, which will be looked into adjacent to other issues that have emerged lately.

Minister Yasonna said that Dhawank has been stripped of his position and has been temporarily moved to the Ministry’s branch office in Lampung. The Minister also acknowledged the lavish lifedata-style showcased by the warden.
