TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in a press statement on Monday announced that Indonesia’s total export during the first quarter of 2023 grew 9.89 percent reaching a total of US$23.50 billion, compared to the previous month.

BPS deputy of methodology and statistic information Imam Machdi said that in the past three years, export in March saw an increase month-to-month, but it was not as high as in 2022 and 2021.

“From a year-to-year basis, [2023] March’s export value dropped by 11.33 percent compared to March 2022,” said Imam in a press conference on Monday, April 17.

Imam further elaborated that although the value of exports had increased on a monthly basis, the same cannot be said on an annual basis as the value of exports experienced a significant decline in March of 2023, after continuing to experience a slowdown since mid-2022.

"If you look in more detail, oil and gas exports in March 2023 fell by 4.76 percent compared to March 2022. Non-oil and gas exports fell by 11.70 percent," he explained.

The Statistics Indonesia data also showed that the value of oil and gas exports in March 2023 reached US$1.34 billion, or a 12.79 percent growth compared to February 2023.

Non-oil and gas exports were worth $22.16 billion or a 9.71 percent growth with details of the agricultural sector amounting to $0.38 billion, the mining and other sectors at $5.15 billion, and the processing industry sector at US$16.62 billion.
