TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Finance Ministry's Tax Directorate General has collected Rp11.03 trillion from 124 collectors of trade value-added tax (VAT) through the electronic system (PMSE) as of February 28, 2023.

Through an official statement released on Friday, March 3, the Tax DG's director of outreach, services and PR Neilmaldrin Noor said that the collected taxes consisted of Rp731.4 billion in tax payments from 2020, Rp3.9 trillion from 2021, Rp5, 51 trillion from 2022, and Rp891.5 billion from 2023.

The Tax DG will continue to appoint PMSE business actors who sell and purchase digital products and services from abroad to consumers in Indonesia, to continue to create a level playing field for business actors—both conventional and digital.

The Indonesian government has appointed 142 business actors trading through the electronic system to become VAT collectors. Business actors that qualify to be appointed as PMSE VAT collectors, he said, are those whose transaction value with Indonesian buyers has exceeded Rp600 million a year or Rp50 million a month, and/or whose traffic in Indonesia exceeds 12,000 per year or 1,000 per month.

In accordance with Finance Minister's Regulation (PMK) No.60/PMK.03/2022, business actors who have been appointed as collectors are required to collect VAT at a rate of 11 percent on foreign digital products sold in Indonesia.

The tax collecting companies are also required to provide proof of VAT collection, which can be in the form of a commercial invoice, billing, order receipt, or other similar documents stating that the VAT has been collected and paid for.
