TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jaleswari Pramodhawardhani explained that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo remained committed to the constitution as a basis for holding the 2024 general elections. The statement was made in response to the Central Jakarta District Court’s ruling that asked the General Elections Commission (KPU) to postpone the elections.

"The government is still committed to supporting the holding of the 2024 elections according to the schedule set by the KPU,” said Jaleswari in a statement on Friday, March 3, 2023.

Jaleswari said that the President always reiterated his support for the implementation of the elections according to schedule and constitution. According to her, elections are a constitutional agenda that must be jointly supported and implemented.

"The government will continue to provide facilities and support for the implementation of the election stages as scheduled by the KPU," Jaleswari added.

Jaleswari also asked the public to stay calm, maintain a safe atmosphere, and not get provoked by information or movements that worsen the situation.

"Trust the KPU to take the best steps. KPU must continue to work as well as possible, independently, professionally, and with integrity, and proceed the 2024 election stages which have started," said Jaleswari.

On Thursday, March 2, the Central Jakarta District Court ruled in favor of Prima Party and ordered the KPU to postpone the 2024 general elections. The panel of judges led by T. Oyong stated that the KPU had committed an unlawful act, namely declaring Prima Party did not meet the requirements in the verification stage of party candidates participating in the election.
