TEMPO.CO, Batam - Into noodles? How about an instant noodle joint as a culinary alternative for you to try? This one is called Surgami, a store selling instant noodle brands from across the globe located at the One Mall Batam Center in Batam City.

Tempo visited the store located independently outside the mall. Visitors will be served a sight that is unique to the store – a rack with a complete collection of instant noodle brands standing tall across the left wall of the store – which comprises local brands, imported brands, limited edition versions, and vegetarian brands. There were at least 80 rows of instant noodle packs.

Right beside it is exhibited a giant infographic comparing the number of instant noodles consumed based on countries. There is also a wall where visitors can leave their comments on post-it papers.

Surgami visitors can cook the noodles they purchased at the lines of stoves right across the noodle rack. At this center of the store are cupboards for instant noodle toppings, an online payment system, and an open kitchen to cook what you bought right on the spot.

Everything offered here is self-service, which includes cooking your own noodle of choice and toppings that are available there that range from sausages, boiled eggs, sunny side up, vegetables, mushrooms, and meatballs.

The price range here starts from Rp5,500 up to Rp40,000, which is quite affordable. “The best seller noodle here is Samyang, there are at least 200 brands that we offer in the store,” said Johansen, Surgami owner and manager on February 27.

According to him, this 24-hour self-service instant noodle store can serve up to 300 people on business days while this number will jump even higher on the weekends.
