TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The water measurement equipment at Katulampa water gate located in Bogor, West Java, has set a flash flood alarm (Alert level 3) on Sunday evening (10 pm) for a river downstream in Jakarta, the Ciliwung River. Water levels reportedly reached 110 centimeters.

An official overseeing this situation at Katulampa, Andi Sudirman, said the increased water volume is mainly due to the heightened rainfall falling over Puncak, Bogor. This rush of water is expected to reach the capital city early Monday morning.

“The evenly spread rain over Puncak, Bogor, which is upstream of Ciliwung contributed to the higher water volume this evening,” says Andi on February 26.

“The rising or dropping water volume will depend on the situation at Puncak. Residents in Jakarta are advised to prepare for potential flooding,” he warned.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts medium to heavy rainfall over West Java.
