TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono on Tuesday asserted that one of his aims in the 2024 regional government work plan (RKPD) - apart from solving issues such as stunting and flooding – is to entirely eradicate extreme poverty in the capital city by 2024.

“[We must] make sure that each suggested regional budget allocation will benefit the broader public,” said the acting governor in the RKPD public consultation forum at Jakarta’s City Hall on February 14.

According to him, the direction of Jakarta's development is to increase the resilience of the city through strengthening the economy and basic services, which is in accordance with the 2023-2026 Regional Development Plan (RPD) document.

Heru urged stakeholders that the myriad of programs must spur economic, social, and environmental growth. The 2024 prioritized programs include handling floods, congestion, spatial planning, and extreme poverty which has a zero percent goal and reducing stunting below five percent.

The Jakarta Statistics Indonesia (BPS) suggests that there are 95,668 individuals living in extreme poverty as of March 2022, which equates to 0.89 percent of the entire 10.7 million population of Jakarta. This number increased by 0.29 percent compared to March 2021 (0.6 percent).

Based on BPS data, Jakarta's economy cumulatively in 2022 grew by 5.25 percent, higher than in 2021 logged 3.56 percent. Based on these developments, he is optimistic that Jakarta's economy is also projected to grow 6.4 percent in 2024.
