TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State Logistics Company or Bulog plans to bring in 50,000 tons of imported soybeans for tofu and tempeh producers. For that to happen, Bulog is still waiting for a permit.

Bulog's president director Budi Waseso said that importing soybeans is not an easy thing because there are procedures and permits that must be followed. Even so, he said Bulog had received an assignment to import soybeans.

"But the assignment requires a legality process," he said in a press conference on February 2.

Once the licensing is cleared, he said, the soybean import contract will be signed. The contract will have a full-year term.

He said that soybean imports were tofu and tempeh producers. He has also conducted trials on the soybeans and said that the soybeans can produce good quality tofu and tempeh, allowing constant, stable production.

In addition, the price of tofu and tempeh will be maintained because the raw materials are cheap and can be purchased at Bulog.

He declined to say which countries would be sending the demand from Indonesia.
