TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to introduce a Presidential Instruction which will issue additional funds for the repair of highways connecting regencies and provincial highways, which amounts to Rp32.7 trillion.
The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono explains that the initial budget plan was Rp123 trillion but was reduced to Rp32 trillion following an evaluation. With these additional funds, the total budget to repair regional highways amounts to a total of Rp108.7 trillion.
“We had to evaluate it as there should be no overlap of specially-allocated funds (DAK) and Regional Budget (APBD),” said Hadimuljono in Jakarta on January 25.
The Minister said the Presidential Instruction for additional funds was agreed upon by President in the meeting he attended today, however, the instruction was issued as it was yet to be passed by the Finance Ministry. Roughly 8,000 kilometers of highways will be repaired.
In 2024, Basuki said there will be 312,000 kilometers of regional highway that will be restored to their original condition. The PUPR Ministry noted that there are 249,000 kilometers of regional highways that are lightly and severely damaged.
