TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday plans to summon the Sweden Ambassador to Indonesia Marina Berg following last week’s incident that saw a Swedish-Danish extremist burning a Quran, a holy book for Muslims across the globe.

This plan was confirmed by Foreign Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah on January 24, Antaranews reported.

“Yes, it will be adjusted to the schedule of both the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Sweden Embassy,” Faizasyah confirmed in a text.

Indonesia has already officially condemned the Quran burning that was committed by the extremist in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday. The condemnation was voiced in a Tweet issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Twitter account.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the burning of the Holy Quran by Rasmus Paludan, Swedish politician, in Stockholm,” the Tweet reads.

The Indonesian Foreign Affairs asserted that the extremist’s act is blatant blasphemy and deeply offended religious tolerance. They also insisted that freedom of speech should have been done in a more responsible manner.

Swedish Foreign Affairs Minister Tobias Billstrom immediately responded to the incident in a Tweet that reads: “Islamophobic provocations are appalling. Sweden has far-reaching freedom of expression, but it does not imply that the Swedish Government, or myself, support the opinions expressed.”
