TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia calls on the United Nations (UN) to take concrete steps to end Israeli’s occupation of Palestine and the crisis it causes.

Indonesia highlights the need for a significant change to reach a peaceful solution considering there are many resolutions that have not yielded results.

While delivering a speech at the UN Security Council Open Debate (UNSC) in New York, on January 18. 2023, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi stated that a business-as-usual attitude could not be taken in resolving the Palestinian issue. She asserted that all parties must push for concrete follow-up actions.

“Various UN reports, mechanisms, and resolutions have been released regarding Palestine, but no significant changes have occurred. We must ensure concrete follow-up actions of all these processes,” said Retno.

She emphasized that 2023 must be the year of progress in resolving the Palestinian issue and that it is the collective responsibility to end Israeli’s occupation once and for all.

“Instead of managing the conflict, we need to take concrete steps to end it and move towards a peaceful solution. There must be no more provocations. The occupying power (Israel) must stop its punitive policies against Palestine. They must not hinder the Palestinian people from fulfilling their economic rights. And they have to maintain the status quo of the Holy Places,” said Retno.
