TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said a political year, including 2023, has the potential to help the growth of the tourism sector. One of the reasons is various events held by political parties at hotels.

“This may be our opportunity to convey that politics is actually good for tourism and the creative economy sector because there must be a lot of events in hotels,” Sandiaga said at the Indonesia Tourism Outlook 2023, on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

He said legislators or politicians may conduct events, or training activities, in cafes besides hotels, which will surely encourage tourism and the creative economy to improve.

The current political era, he opined, has completely changed, considering millennials has started to abandon divisive and discouraging political activities.

“They want to have fun in Marawa. Marawa can be a place for discussion, even the beverage is ginger tea,” said the minister, mentioning a herbal drink cafe.

In 2023, the ministry targets 1.2 - 1.4 billion domestic tourist visits and 7.4 million foreign tourist visits. The foreign exchange is also expected to reach US$5 billion or around Rp77.9 trillion. At least 4.4 million new jobs in the tourism sector are also created throughout the year.

Sandiaga Uno said his side encouraged investors to invest in five super priority destinations, 10 priority tourism destinations, and 8 tourism special economic zones (KEK). “Besides, 12 sustainable tourism projects are promoted,” he concluded.
