TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry in tandem with the National Library launched a digital library or e-Library in a bid to facilitate people to obtain information and data about tourism and the creative economy. At least 1.1 million digital books will be released this January.

“The digital library exists as an answer to the need for data and information from library books,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno in a written statement, Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

He explained that in the current era of digital transformation, all activities can be carried out easily and quickly through the use of digital technology. Because of that, the ministry created an innovation by presenting a digital library that is expected to provide information to users, both from within and outside the ministry.

Sandiaga also hoped that the digital library could encourage people’s interest in reading and accelerate the dissemination of knowledge related to Indonesia's tourism and creative economy to be more widely known.

The ministry’s Secretary Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani would also encourage the Tourism State Polytechnic under the auspices of the Ministry to use this e-Library. “Apart from that, we will also support and encourage a library at tourists sites,” he added.

Indonesia’s National Library Head Muhammad Syarif Bando said his side would help to build a narrative about Indonesian tourist destinations based on books and history to boost public interest in reading about the tourism sector and the creative economy in the country.

“This January, we will launch 1.1 million copies of digital books for the public. We will also support narratives about Indonesian tourist destinations based on books and history,” he said.
