TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The latest survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia shows the electability of former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan coinciding with the public discontent against President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s performance. This comes after a poll showed a low approval level against the President while Anies’ electability tends to grow.

"Those who are dissatisfied with Pak Jokowi's performance, coincide with the pattern of Anies' electability," said the pollster’s executive director Burhanuddin Muhtadi, on January 4.

In November last year, he elaborated, one example showed the President’s public approval level dropping from 70.1 percent to 66.2 percent. All while Anies’ grew from 26.3 percent to 32.2 percent.

In contrast to Anies, Burhanuddin said public satisfaction with the President is directly proportional to Ganjar Pranowo's electability. When the public was dissatisfied with Jokowi, Ganjar's electability also nosedives and vice versa.

"So Ganjar's electability is framed by Jokowi's approval rating. It's easy to explain this, as they are both from PDIP, maybe Ganjar is considered the little Jokowi," he said.

Jokowi's performance has also affected the electability of his former political rival Prabowo Subianto. This is seen as unique, he said, Prabowo's electability does not correlate with the President’s public approval in past political polls.
