TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially revoke the Imposition of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) policy starting Friday, December 30, 2022. However, the policy still can be reinstated.

"If there is an increase in Covid cases, PPKM will be re-enacted," said the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian in a press conference at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday, December 30, 2022.

Jokowi officially revoked PPKM after he asserted that the Covid-19 indicators in the country were below the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. With this revocation, Jokowi ensures that there are no more restrictions on mobility.

After the PPKM was revoked, Tito emphasized that the Covid-19 Task Force at the central and regional levels would not be disbanded. They were told to continue monitoring their respective areas. "If there is something urgent, they act quickly," said Tito.

Moreover, the government continues to request the public to use masks in crowded and indoor spaces. Tito reminds that the revocation of PPKM does not mean the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

"There are several health protocols that we continue to encourage, especially the use of masks in closed places such as public transportation," he said.

Furthermore, if any have symptoms of respiratory problems such as coughing, runny nose, and others, they are also advised to keep wearing masks. Minister of Home Affairs, Tito, said the government wanted the wearing of masks to become a new habit.

"Like in developed countries, Japan for example, if a member of the public has symptoms of respiratory problems, they consciously wear a mask," said a former National Police Chief.
