TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) on Wednesday warned the country about the impending challenges that will be faced by the relocated new capital city of Nusantara. The institute’s governor Andi Widjajanto said one of the potential threats IKN could face is air strikes.

The latest Lemhanas study, he recalled, saw air strikes as one of the aspects that the government must consider about potential future threats.

“We can observe the Russian - Ukraine war where the conflict tends to utilize high-tech air strike weapons,” said Andi on December 21. “Our study found there are hypersonic rockets and even drones that were used that utilized artificial intelligence.”

Another potential threat to national security he mentioned is cyberattacks. After setting the Russian invasion of Ukraine as another example, he deemed that cyber weapons are still massively used to ambush foreign enemies.

“From existing reports, during the first four months of the war, there was already a synergy between cyber attacks and kinetic ground operations. And this made us realize that Indonesia must be prepared," said the former Cabinet secretary.

Lemhanas officially recommends that the government equip Indonesia’s Defense Ministry and National Armed Forces (TNI) with the latest war technology to defend the new capital city of Nusantara in East Kalimantan. He also recommended the procurement of a new military position that would respond more thoroughly to air-centric attacks.
