TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the latest earthquake in Karangasem, Bali, at 03:17 western Indonesian time (WIB), Wednesday, Dec. 14. It was measured at a magnitude of 3.9.

Its epicenter was the same as the series of the quake on Tuesday afternoon, which was in the sea, 20 kilometers northeast of Karangasem Regency. The aftershock, however, only affected the area and was felt weak at the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) level II.

On Tuesday afternoon, the strongest quake in the regency was measured at magnitude 5.1 at 17:38 WIB. The shaking was felt strong at the MMI IV reaching Mataram and other parts of Lombok Island.

The agency confirmed that the quakes were triggered by the activity of the Flores rising fault and had no potential to trigger tsunamis.

Prior to the aftershock in the early hours of today, the agency detected an aftershock from Karangasem on Tuesday night at 22:32 WIB which was measured at 3.3 magnitudes.

The BMKG also still recorded aftershocks from the Cianjur earthquake. The latest one was reported at 2.1 magnitudes on Tuesday night at 20:09 WIB

Similar to the two aftershocks in Bali’s Karangasem, the tremor caused by the quake in Cianjur was also weak.
