TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The second day of the 2022 Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) week continued the discussion that was focused on building a strong foundation within sustainable energy. In the approach to developing sustainability, Indonesia and Sweden shared a mutual interest in the establishment of renewable energy as a step to reach Net Zero Emissions by 2050.

"Indonesia has shown great commitment to energy transition during the G20 Presidency, [and] Sweden is willing to contribute to that commitment through policies on development, knowledge, and financial," said Director-General for Trade at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Per-Arne Hjelmborn, during the opening of SISP at Langham, Jakarta, December 6.

Super Grid and Renewable Green Energy in NTT and NTB

On the ambition toward renewable energies and zero-emission, Indonesia outlined a plan to construct Super Grid that connects the power grid within the archipelago, specifically in Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi, and Papua. President Director of a real estate developer Flores Prosperindo, Alfonso Pardede, along with Special Advisor of West Nusa Tenggara Energy department, Fauzi Imron, have shown interest in the green energy transition in East and West Nusa Tenggara through geothermal and biomass, proposing the modernization upon Eco-tourism around the region, such as the Tana Mori project in Labuan Bajo.

However, according to Jaya Wahono of PT. Clean Power Indonesia, the country is facing three challenges in its ambition to implement renewable energy and reach net zero emissions. First, as the biggest archipelago country, the implementation of the super grid in Indonesia can be challenging and will take time. Second is that Indonesia still needs to catch up with neighboring countries in electric consumption. Third is that the one-price policy complicates negotiating prices in purchasing needs for the goal. "Can technology in Sweden provide the answer to that challenge?" Wahyono said.

The discussion of the second-day seminar of SISP 2022 on energies also focused on smart grid, blue energy, green energy, energy efficiency, and heat efficiency. In the hope to maintain cooperation, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Indonesia's electricity company PLN and Business Sweden.
