TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed his confidence in Indonesia’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem and believes the country can produce 60 percent of the global EV battery demand.
"We have nickel, copper, bauxite, and lead. What we don’t have is only lithium," said the President during a national meeting with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Jakarta on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Borobudur Hotel.
Jokowi also believed that other countries will be attracted to developing electric vehicles in Indonesia due to the country's abundance of raw materials and green energy potential, which Jokowi claims will be able to produce premium products.
As of now, the President laments the non-integrated potential that can be grown into a major player on the global stage and was wary about Indonesia’s vulnerability to being exploited by other countries with agendas.
