TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Capital Authority (OIKN) of Nusantara announced a test drive of the Hyundai flying car that will be carried out at New Capital City IKN Nusantara in 2024.

Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation of the IKN Authority Mohammed Ali Berawi said the Authority and Hyundai Motor Group had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a smart mobility ecosystem of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) in Indonesia.

"Later there will also be a test at the IKN. The plan is for 2024," said Ali in Jakarta, today on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

According to Ali, this collaboration is to develop the first Hyundai flying car for Indonesia. The concept of flying cars is still in the development stage all around the world.

He explained that flying cars resemble drones that can contain passengers and goods. One of its functions is to make it easier to reach areas of hills that are difficult to reach by road.

The technology for Hyundai's flying car has not yet been mass-produced, so it still requires various developments. OIKN is also developing technology that can be used in 2035, including flying cars.

Ali hopes that Indonesia will become an actor in the development of flying cars in the future. OIKN is building a city for 2045 so that the technology that is currently being prepared could meet those requirements.

"To imagine a flying car today may be a bit confusing, but the perception could change in 2035," said Ali.
