TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) said that the application of the contactless toll payment system or multi-lane free flow (MLFF) was rejected by Bank Indonesia (BI).

In response, the Minister of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), Basuki Hadimuljono, denied the report of Bank Indonesia's rejection of the MLFF system on toll roads.

According to him, Bank Indonesia only directs that the MLFF payment system should not be made exclusively in the future.

In addition, Basuki revealed that the government would send police members of the Traffic Corps to Hungary to study the MLFF system in depth and be able to implement the system smoothly.

"Afterwards, I don't think the BUJT's rejection is correct, only on the concern that the initial operational funds guaranteeing this payment will be prepared by the Executing Business Entity (BUP). This is included in the toll road 'lesson plan' that is being prepared," he said during a meeting that was held on Monday, November 28, 2022.

Previously, Member of Commission V of the DPR, Andre Rosiade, said that the problem related to the potential losses caused by the implementation of the MLFF transaction system still provides no solution. Apart from Bank Indonesia, he said that the Toll Road Association also rejected this application.

Andre assesses that the implementation of the MLFF, which has just been carried out by Indonesia, has not yet been definitively tested, so preparations are essential so that Indonesia does not incur losses.

"An in-depth study is needed because there is a refusal from Bank Indonesia, and the toll road associations also refuse due to the potential loss function which can be a major disadvantage," he said.
