TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cianjur, West Java, is still jolted by aftershocks following the devastating earthquake on Monday, November 21, 2022. Acting head of the quake and tsunami center of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono disclosed new data related to the disaster.

“As of Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 06:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time), there were 317 earthquakes," said Daryono in his Twitter statement.

As previously reported, 296 aftershocks were recorded as of 05:00 WIB, Monday, November 28, 2022.

Daryono asked residents who have returned to their homes to arrange their furniture so that the evacuation route is clear and not obstructed by any objects.

Regarding a large number of aftershocks, he asserted that regardless of the number, it is not related to the possibility of a large-scale earthquake.

“This is related to the characteristics of the rock. Brittle/heterogeneous/brittle rocks will produce many aftershocks. Elastic/homogeneous/ductile rocks don't trigger it much,” he tweeted on November 28, 2022.

Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman reported on Monday, November 28, that two more buried victims were found. “So the death toll was recorded at 323,” he said at the Cianjur Regency Hall.

“Residents can already return home because based on the BMKG’s analysis, the number of aftershocks has been declining. Houses that were lightly damaged can already be occupied,” he explained.
