Cianjur Earthquake; 5 Died and Many Buildings Severely Damaged

TEMPO.CO, Cianjur - The Cianjur Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that at least five people died and four people were injured due to the strong earthquake that occurred on Monday, November 21, 2022. The parking lot of Sayang Cianjur Regional Hospital was packed with patients, from toddlers to adults.

Until this news was written, ambulances and cars kept arriving bringing victims for medical treatment.

Other than dead and injured people, the agency recorded that seven houses, one boarding school building, and the Cianjur Hospital building were severely damaged. The quake also caused damage to three government buildings, three educational facilities, one worship facility, one shop, and one cafe in the area.

Centered in the southwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java, the earthquake epicenter was located at a depth of 10 km, 6.84 degrees South Latitude and 107.05 degrees East Longitude. It occurred on Monday afternoon, at 13:21 local time.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was felt in many regions near Cianjur, viz. Garut, Sukabumi, Cimahi, Bandung, Lembang, Cikalong Wetan, Rangkasbitung, Bogor, Bayah, and Rancaekek, as well as South Tangerang, Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bakauheni.
