TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo reminded the challenges of the global crisis to the threat of a recession, which is expected to occur soon. During the Summit, Jokowi encouraged APEC economic leaders to strengthen their cooperation.

Jokowi delivered this statement during the first session of the leaders' meeting at the APEC Summit.

"In the short term, collaboration is necessary to overcome inflation and ensure food security," Jokowi said in his statement on Friday, November 18, 2022.

At the conference, Jokowi pushed for the materialization of the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030 to ensure food security through several things, namely innovative technology and digitization, increased productivity and efficiency of the food system, as well as inclusive and sustainable policies.

"The availability of fertilizer and animal feed also needs attention to prevent a food crisis from impacting more than three billion people," said President Jokowi.

In the long term, Jokowi encourages the strengthening of the digital economy and green economy partnerships. According to Jokowi, the digital economy and digital transformation are important for an inclusive economic recovery.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that the digital economy, such as telemedicine, food delivery services, digital payments, and the involvement of MSMEs in the marketplace, was very useful during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We must build a friendly digital economy ecosystem for MSMEs and start-ups, especially through strengthening skills and digital literacy," Jokowi said.

Also during the summit, Jokowi pushed for a green economy for regional economic recovery. Jokowi's reasons for firmly supporting the green economy is the potential future for the region's economy and more than US$90 billion has been used to build various green projects in APEC.

"For that, I welcome Thailand's initiative The Bangkok Goals for the Bio-Circular-Green Economy. This initiative will open up access to financing, technology, innovation and capacity building," said Jokowi.
