TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called for world leaders to strengthen cooperation amidst a series of global crises in the field of food security, energy, environment, and a possible economic recession.
"In the short term, collaboration is absolutely necessary to overcome inflation and ensure food security," said the President when delivering the intervention of the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting (AELM) Session I in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, November 18, 2022, as quoted by Antaranews.
Jokowi also encouraged the realization of the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030 to intensify efforts to strengthen food security through technological innovation, increasing productivity and efficiency of the food system, as well as inclusive and sustainable policies.
"Availability of fertilizers and animal feed also needs to be considered to prevent a food crisis from attacking more than three billion people," Jokowi added.
The implementation and practice of the green economy, Jokowi believes is important in efforts to recover the regional economy. According to him, the concept is the future of the Asia-Pacific region, where more than US$90 billion has been used to build various green projects.
"Therefore, I welcome Thailand's initiative The Bangkok Goals for the Bio-Circular-Green Economy. This initiative will open access to finance, technology, innovation, and capacity building," the President said in the APEC summit.
