TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted that moderate to heavy rain will shower a number of Indonesian regions today, November 17, 2022.

They are West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, and Central Java. In particular, regions that will likely see high-intensity rain are Padang, Palembang, and Medan.

Regions that will be wet by moderate rain include Serang, Jakarta (Central Jakarta), Bandung, Tarakan, Mamuju, and Manado. While rain accompanied by lightning is possible to hit Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Samarinda, Bandar Lampung, Ambon, and Mataram.

The agency is still monitoring tropical cyclone 94S around the Indian Ocean southwest of Bengkulu, which is affecting today's weather forecast. The cyclone seed moving to the southeast is considered in the 'moderate' category for its chance of growing into a tropical cyclone today.

Apart from bringing heavy rains, the cyclone seeds may also generate strong winds in the Indian Ocean west of the Mentawai Islands to Lampung, the western waters of Pagai Island, the western waters of Sipora Island, the waters of Enggano - Bengkulu Island, the western waters of Lampung, and the western and southern parts of the Sunda Strait.

High waves of up to 4-6 meters were also expected to occur in the waters of Enggano - Bengkulu, the southern part of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Banten, and the Indian Ocean west of Lampung. Meanwhile, over 6-meter high waves were estimated to occur in the Indian Ocean south of Banten.

The BMKG also issued an early warning of hydrometeorological disasters (floods, flash floods, and others) for several provinces following potential heavy rains. They are Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Banten.
