TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expected the implementation of the 5-point consensus (5PC) to immediately cease the prolonged conflict in Myanmar. The statement was made at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits in Cambodia on Friday, November 11, 2022.

"First, the implementation of the 5PC remains the main reference for ASEAN in helping Myanmar get out of its political crisis," Jokowi remarked.

President Jokowi also called for the end to violence in Myanmar and suggested ASEAN Sec-Gen and AHA Center seek access so that the Comprehensive Needs Assessment can be conducted in Myanmar.

According to Jokowi, humanitarian aid to support life-sustaining in Myanmar is getting more crucial at this time. He also argued that Myanmar's decision on non-political representation must be applied in addition to the AMM and the Summit.

"Fifth, ASEAN engagement with all Myanmar stakeholders must be carried out immediately. Because as dialogues with all parties are opened, ASEAN will be able to facilitate the national dialogue mandated in 5PC," the President underlined.

Jokowi further stated that he respected the principle of non-interference, so ASEAN does not support non-inclusive elections that are not prepared based on national dialogue in Myanmar.

"We have a responsibility to the people of ASEAN and the world. If we don't act appropriately, ASEAN's credibility and relevance will be at stake," Jokowi said.
