TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has stated that Indonesia is now targeted to become a developed country by 2043. This is a pushback from an initial target of becoming advanced by 2036-2038.

The ministry's assistant deputy for economic competitiveness improvement Ichsan Zulkarnaen said the target is pushed back as Indonesia is among the many nations that were quite affected by three years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"We will get out of the middle-income trap in 2043," he said in the Indonesia Development Talk 8 web seminar on Thursday, November 3.

The government, he said, will pursue the target of achieving a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita of US$15,287 by 2043. To achieve that goal, the government will develop human resources, build infrastructure, simplify regulations and bureaucracy, and carry out economic transformation.

The government will also improve the investment climate. Ichsan said that the investment realization target for next year is Rp6,534.3 trillion, of which 83.6 percent is expected to come from business actors.

The government also aims to absorb more workers. Therefore, investment in large-scale programs will be a focus, particularly in the manufacturing sector. The downstream sector and the medical sector are also a priority as they have an immediate impact on the national economy.
