TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that there is a 0.11 percent deflation in October 2022 compared to the previous month. The year-to-date inflation rate is 4.73 percent and the year-on-year inflation is 5.71 percent.

In September 2022, the agency recorded inflation at 1.17 percent and its year-on-year inflation was at 5.95 percent.

Setianto, the agency’s deputy for statistics, distribution, and services, said the deflation figure was obtained based on monitoring the Consumer Price Index or CPI in 90 cities. It showed that 60 cities recorded deflation.

“This month-to-month deflation of 0.11 percent is because the CPI decrease from 112.87 in September 2021 to 112.75 in October 2022,” said Setianto in a press conference at his office in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

He explained that Gunungsitoli of Nias Island, North Sumatra, reported the deepest monthly deflation at 1.48 percent. Meanwhile, the highest inflation occurred in Manokwari of Papua at 0.76 percent.

“The biggest deflation in all Indonesian regions is attributable to red chili which contributed 1.19 percent, cabai rawit (bird's eye chili) contributed 0.20 percent, chicken meat 0.08 percent, and cooking oil 0.03 percent,” Setianto outlined.

Setianto said this caused the food, beverage, and tobacco group to see the largest deflation, which was 0.97 percent with a 0.25 percent contribution to the total deflation.
