TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The G20 Bali Summit scheduled to be held in November is hoped to see the declaration of sustainable use of the world's biodiversity for a “blue and green economy.” The declaration will be made at the ministerial level through the G20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) side event.

RIIG chairperson Agus Haryono – BRIN's Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilitation – announced this plan in a virtual press conference at the BJ Habibie headquarters on Wednesday, October 19.

"It is hoped that on October 28, God willing, a ministerial-level declaration will be agreed on the sustainable use of biodiversity for the green and blue economy," he said.

Agus said, RIIG 2022 has held a series of meetings since last April and focused on discussing two main topics. The first is to increase and strengthen research collaboration between G20 members by sharing resources.

In addition, the regulation of the use of research-based biodiversity is hoped to ensure equality among the G20 members, both those who act as sources of biodiversity and developers of its use. Whether it is the utilization for the health, energy, food, or climate change adaptation and mitigation sectors.

The series of meetings will also discuss funding for research and innovation collaboration, schemes for the use of joint research and innovation facilities, resolutions, and collaboration frameworks among G20 member countries. In this regard, the RIIG G20 proposes the Global Biodiversity Research and Innovation Platform (GBRIP).
