TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was tight-lipped when asked about the national football team coach, Shin Tae-yong, who recently announced a resignation plan if Mochamad Iriawan steps down from the position as the chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) following the Kanjuruhan tragedy.

“There is no report from TGIPF (the tragedy fact-finding team) yet,” the President shortly said while distributing social assistance in Bandung, West Java, Thursday, September 13, 2022.

Jokowi refused to comment on the issue since no report from the TGIPF regarding the stadium disaster is submitted.

The tragedy took place on October 1, 2022, at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, after the professional match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya. At least 132 people died and hundreds were injured in the tragic incident.

On October 12, 2022, the former South Korean football coach stated via his Instagram that he will resign if the PSSI chairman, who is familiarly called Iwan Bule, must take responsibility for the stadium disaster and is forced to step down from his position.

Shin Tae-yong is currently managing three national teams, namely the senior Indonesian football team, the U-23 team, and the U-19 team. He is in charge of various international competitions, including the 2023 U-20 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in Indonesia next year.
