TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The secretary general of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Yunus Nusi announced that PSSI has temporarily halted the Liga 1 and Liga 2 football leagues following the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in East Java that killed over 120 people.

Despite the tragedy, Yunus hoped that the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifying will be able to be conducted as scheduled because a number of teams have arrived in Indonesia.

"We have halted the Liga 1 and Liga 2 matches. Others will not be affected, especially the AFC [Asian Cup]. We hope the government will let us continue to host this as there are representatives from 5 countries already present in Indonesia," said Yunus at the Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Coordinating Ministry office on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Yunus is confident that FIFA will base its decisions on facts and evidence. PSSI is currently coordinating with FIFA to follow up on this incident.

"They (FIFA) are also wise in this matter, we have also submitted reports and they have also asked us to continue reporting to FIFA, which is certain that FIFA also has policies and its own rules in order to make decisions," he said.

Regarding the U-20 World Cup title, Yunus is currently still waiting for a decision from FIFA. Yunus admitted that he is still communicating with the international football federation thru phone communication.
