TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from Pakistan's devastating floods and landslides continues to rise. As of today, however, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy confirmed that no Indonesian citizen impacted by the disasters yet.

“As far as I know, there are no Indonesian victims,” said Muhadjir to Tempo on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. The data includes about 1,000 Indonesian citizens studying in Pakistan.

Many of the students have even become volunteers to help the victims. Muhadjir received the information from the Indonesian Consul General in Karachi June Kuncoro Hadiningrat.

Flooding has submerged Pakistan since late August and killed more than 1,500 people. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that at least 800,000 people were displaced.

On, Monday, September 26, Jokowi announced that the Indonesian government sent humanitarian aid to the flood victims. The aid includes cash totaling US$1 million and basic necessities weighing 80 tons departed from East Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base.

Jokowi also ordered Muhadjir and Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto to leave for Pakistan to hand over the humanitarian aid.
