TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new capital city of Indonesia or IKN Nusantara will reportedly adopt an electric charging lanes system. This technology will allow the roads to charge electric vehicles as they drive, stated the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force official Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga.

“Because in IKN, we talk about electric-powered vehicles. There will be no vehicles using fossil fuels,” said Danis as quoted from Antara today, September 9, 2022.

He explained that the electric charging lane system has been implemented in a number of countries and many have conducted trials. This technology allows road infrastructure to charge electric car batteries while passing the road. IKN Nusantara will adopt many smart and sustainable technologies.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has stated that only electrified vehicles are allowed to operate in the new capital in order to keep the environment free from pollution. “People who like to ride a car, especially ones that use fossil fuel, don't move to the new capital,” he said.

The Land Transportation Director General of the Transportation Ministry Budi Setiyadi also said that IKN Nusantara will use autonomous cars as a means of transportation. The government will restrict the use of private vehicles. At present, the government is still making some preparations, such as the infrastructure development, budget, and revision of the Traffic Law.
