TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cybersecurity and digital forensics expert from Vaksincom, Alfons Tanujaya, confirmed the validity of several ID numbers or NIK from 105 million Indonesian population data leaked by an account named Bjorka and sold on an online forum called Breached Forums or Breached.to. The data are believed to be from the General Elections Commission (KPU).

“I have checked several NIK given as the sample, all are valid. And the data is most likely indeed from KPU because there is TPS information,” said Alfons to Tempo on Wednesday night, September 7, 2022.

Bjorka is suspected of leaking sensitive data of Indonesian people including NIK, family card or KK number, full name, place and date of birth, gender, address, and age on its page on September 6, 2022.

As a result of this data breach, Alfons explained, people could exploit the population data by opening a fake bank account, registering for online loans, and others.

The Communication and Information or Kominfo Ministry was tight-lipped when asked to respond to the alleged data leak. “Regarding cyber attacks, it is best to ask the National Cyber and Encryption Agency or BSSN as the leading cyber technical sector,” said Kominfo Minister Johnny G. Plate via short message on Wednesday.

The BSSN, meanwhile, claimed it is conducting an in-depth investigation over the alleged breach of 105 million Indonesian sensitive data. “The BSSN team is coordinating and looking into the matter. It is still being processed,” said the agency spokesperson Ariandi Putra to Tempo on Wednesday.
