TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early weather warning for coastal regions across the south Java coastline that include West Java, Central Java, and Yogyakarta. The weather warning, which warns about possible extreme high tides, is effective from August 29 to September 1.

According to BMKG, the extreme high tides are mainly caused by strong winds from the east-southeast with a speed of 5-20 knots. Head of the Bandung BMKG Geophysics Station, Teguh Rahayu, said fishermen and sea transportation users should remain vigilant and not engage in activities at sea.

The agency also suggested tourists temporarily avoid activities on beaches and coastal areas. Waves are predicted to reach 4-6 meters in height in the following areas: Cilacap, Kebumen, Purworejo, Yogyakarta, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran.

“It’s best not to swim, surf, or travel by boat until the sea conditions return to levels that are deemed safe,” said Rahayu on August 30.
