TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially launched the Domestic Government Credit Card (KKP) and International QRIS (quick response Indonesia standard) payment systems, which enable the purchase of goods and services at the central and regional government levels with all of its processes done domestically.

"This shows that our country follows the pace of digital technology change in the economy, means that we are not too far behind," said the President in his speech aired on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, on Monday, August 29.

The new system was developed by Bank Indonesia, under the coordination of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who said that the launch of the domestic government credit card was the implementation of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No 2/2022 regarding the use of non-cash transactions for central and regional government goods spending.

"We can be proud of the steps that we have taken because then the transaction data belongs to our nation and the transaction costs return to our country," said Luhut.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo said that during the early stages of its implementation, BI would develop a QRIS interconnection for the needs of the Domestic KKP system. Since its launch in 2019, Perry said that currently there have been 85 QRIS providers throughout the country and 20.3 million merchants.

In the event, Jokowi also asked for the QRIS system to really be connected between countries, making it easier for MSMEs and Indonesian tourism to connect with other countries with all ASEAN countries.
