TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tropical storm Ma-On in the South China Sea, west of the Philippines, will still affect Indonesia’s weather today, August 25, 2022, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported. The cyclone has grown with a maximum wind speed of 55 knots moving westward and minimum air pressure of 985 millibars.

The agency thus warned of the growth of rain clouds, wind speed, and sea high waves around the tropical cyclone spawn area which have the potential to increase.

The potential for rain cloud growth is attributable to the formation of confluence and convergence areas extending in Aceh, from West Sumatra to North Sumatra, from Riau to the Malacca Strait, from Bangka Belitung to the Riau Islands, in West Kalimantan, from East Kalimantan to North Kalimantan, Southeast Sulawesi to Central Sulawesi, in North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua. No convergence areas were observed around the Java island.

The agency also predicted rain accompanied by lightning in Banjarmasin and Mamuju. Meanwhile, moderate-intensity rain is likely to shower Ambon and Kendari.

The air temperature would range from 17-34 degrees Celsius with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest temperatures in Makassar and Jakarta, or particularly Central Jakarta.

BMKG further forecasted high waves up to 4-6 meters in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh.
