TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in an official statement on Wednesday said that New Zealand is seen as a very strategic market to help grow Indonesia’s tourism.

Antaranews reported data from Statistics Indonesia in 2018, that New Zealanders who visited Indonesia grew by 14 percent, equivalent to 128,325 tourists, with an average length of stay from 10-11 days.

“If this opportunity is optimized, the Indonesian tourism and creative economy will be able to rise again and boost new job opportunities by 1.1 million quality jobs,” said the Minister on August 24. “Because the tourism and creative economy sector have become the home for 40 million Indonesian.

He claimed Indonesia has approached New Zealand in hopes of establishing cooperation in the tourism sector which includes flight frequency, the strategy of presenting quality and environmentally sustainable tourism, sharing best practices with educational institutions between the two countries, digitalization, and marketing strategies to increase tourism awareness of the two countries.

"Hopefully we can strengthen collaboration in developing tourism and the creative economy in both countries, and can help promote and present quality and sustainable tourism," said Sandiaga Uno.

Sandiaga also asked New Zealand to support the success of the 2022 G20 Presidency hosted by Indonesia. New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia Kevin Burnett was grateful for the opportunity to have a dialogue about collaboration opportunities in the tourism and creative economy sectors
