Indonesia's COVID-19 Update Today: 5,136 New Cases, 26 Deaths

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - COVID-19 still exists in Indonesia. On Friday, August 19, authorities recorded 5,163 new infections, bringing the total positive cases in the country to 6,306,686 since the first cases were detected on March 2, 2020.

Based on data from the COVID Task Force, Jakarta contributed the highest addition with 2,217 cases, followed by West Java with 1,036 cases, Banten with 563 cases, East Java with 476 cases, Central Java with 140 cases, and Bali with 120 cases.

Additionally, North Sumatra logged 82 new cases, East Kalimantan 63 cases, Papua 52 cases, and Riau 50 cases. Other regions accounted for under 50 new cases.

Today, the task force also recorded 5,028 more patients recovered from the infectious disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 6,097,334 people.

The number of patients who succumbed to the illness also increased by 26. Thus, the COVID-19 death toll has now reached 157,343 people.

The government is monitoring 5,867 people who are suspected of being exposed to the coronavirus. In addition, 100,413 specimens related to the virus are being examined today.
