TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that local governments still have Rp212.4 trillion in banks. Although it's an ample amount, the volume is slightly lower than June's Rp220.9 trillion.

"We hope that the transfer of funds from the central government to the provinces can immediately turn their economic wheels," Sri Mulyani said in a press conference on state budget, Thursday, August 11.

Sri said that in quarter two, local government funds in banking are above Rp200 trillion. In May it was Rp200.75 trillion; in June Rp220.95 trillion and in July Rp212.4 trillion.

Based on the regencies/cities of each province, the government of East Java has the biggest amount of funds in banks, followed by Central Java and West Java.

Based on the amount of funds, Jakarta is in first place followed by West Java and East Java.

Sri Mulyani hopes that the funds in the banking sector can immediately be used/spent over the next five months, to "help our people restore their socio-economic status."
