TEMPO.CO, Praya - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) declared alert status for drought in eight regencies and cities of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province due to the dry season.

“The drought alert status has been issued in East Lombok Regency, Central Lombok Regency, North Lombok Regency, Sumbawa Regency, West Sumbawa Regency, Bima Regency, Dompu Regency, and Bima City,” said the agency’s forecaster for NTB climatology station, Dewo Adi Sulistio W. in a written statement in Praya, Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Dewo also mentioned a higher drought status for Labuan Badas Districts of Sumbawa Regency and Woha District of Bima Regency, which is at Awas or Danger.

Thus, BMKG reminded the public to be aware of the meteorological disasters such as drought, forest and land fires, as well as cold temperatures that can disrupt daily activities when entering this year’s peak dry season.

People are also highly suggested to be aware of the potential for local extreme weather such as sudden strong winds and rain.
