TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo said the price of instant noodles in the country has the potential to increase up to three times in line with the high prices of global wheat in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Syahrul said the current food situation in the world is not okay due to many factors affecting the food sector.

After being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, he explained, the world still has to face climate change leading to uncertainties in the weather which greatly affects the food sector.

Moreover, the war between Russia and Ukraine has triggered the price of wheat to soar, considering that the two countries are two of the largest wheat granaries in the world.

“Be careful for those who eat a lot of noodles. Tomorrow, the price of noodles made of wheat may increase three times. I'm sorry for extremely talking about this. The wheat is available but at a very expensive price while we continue to import noodles,” said Syahrul, as quoted from the Youtube channel of the Agriculture Ministry’s Food Directorate General on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
