TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that the Indonesian economy has returned to its pre-COVID-19 pandemic level.

“The Indonesian economy has reached the pre-COVID-19 level as calculated from its GDP, both in 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, the budget deficit is relatively moderate,” Sri said in a press statement after the plenary cabinet meeting on the Financial Note and the 2023 State Budget Plan led directly by President Joko Widodo on Monday.

Statistics Indonesia’s data shows that the national economy based on GDP in the second quarter of 2022 reached Rp4,919.9 trillion or grew by 5.44 percent compared to the same period last year.

In 2021, the figure reached Rp16,970.8 trillion or grew by 3.69 percent, with a GDP per capita of Rp62.2 million or US$4,349.5.

Sri claimed the economic growth in the second quarter of 2022 exceeded the government's optimistic forecast of 5.2 percent. “This is an impressively high growth because last year's growth in the second quarter is quite high at 7.1,” she added.

The government, she went on, is determined to maintain the economy at a good level. “The 2022 economy is already in a good position and must continue to be maintained in the second semester,” Sri remarked.

To support this, Sri reminded the President's directive that asked all ministries and government agencies to realize government spending in 2022 by focusing on buying products that have high local content.

“This will support a stronger economic recovery in the third and fourth quarters when the world is experiencing turbulence,” said Sri Mulyani.
