TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Logistics and expedition service company PT Tiki Lintas Nugraha Ekakurir or JNE had to pay Rp37 million to replace the 3.4 tons of damaged social assistance rice. The presidential aid rice (Banpres) was damaged due to rain during the delivery process by JNE from Bulog warehouse.

JNE's attorney, Hotman Paris Hutapea, said that the Rp37 million was taken from the shipping company's fee deduction.

"JNE paid for damaged rice by deducting their fee. It's called a debit note," Hotman said at a press conference in North Jakarta, Thursday, August 4.

According to Hotman, the social assistance rice buried in Sukmajaya, Depok was only 0.05 percent of the 6,199 tons of Banpres rice distributed by JNE.

The cost of replacing the damaged rice is borne by JNE through a debit note by deducting the payment scheme that JNE should have received from PT SSI (Storesend Elogistics Indonesia). PT SSI is the government's partner in the distribution of social assistance, which then cooperated with JNE for the deliveries.

The substitute social assistance rice has now been distributed to all beneficiary families (KPM) in 11 sub-districts of Depok City. Hotman said that there was no unlawful element in the case, including abuse or corruption. He said that the rice was not sold to the market but thrown into the ground.

"That is proof that there was no intention of corruption at all. Because this is indeed our rice. The rice that belonged to JNE," he said.

The social assistance rice which was damaged during delivery in May 2020 became JNE's property after the company paid for its replacement. The rice was stored for 1.5 years in the company's warehouse, and then the company decided to bury it in November 2021 to prevent misuse.
