TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairman of the Indonesian Travel Association (Asita) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Abed Frans, confirmed that tourism actors in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency are set to conduct a strike starting todayaagainst the latest policies at Komodo National Park.
The policies include the restriction on the number of tourist visits and the new entry fee of Komodo Island at Rp3.75 million per person. As a result, said Abed, a lot of tourists opted to scrap their visit.
“There have been many cancellations of tourist visits,” said Abed when contacted in Kupang, Monday, August 1, 2022.
The strike will last until August 31, 2022.
Tourism actors under the West Manggarai Tourism Rescue Community Forum (Formapp Mabar) and all associations of West Manggarai tourism actors have prepared a number of agendas during the one-month protest.
Among the agendas are picking up trash, marathon actions in the form of parades, speeches, and issuing statements in front of the Komodo National Park Office, West Manggarai Regent's Office, DPRD Office, and Labuan Bajo and Flores Tourism Authority (BPOBLF), as well as the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony on Kelor Island on August 17.
