Citilink Pilot Dies after Making Emergency Landing in Surabaya

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The pilot of Citilink Indonesia died after making an emergency landing at Juanda International Airport, Surabaya today, July 21. He was rushed to the nearest hospital upon landing.

“Ground officers along with all stakeholders at Juanda Airport Surabaya have prepared procedures for handling health emergencies well and quickly, and the pilot was treated by doctors at the nearest hospital," said Citilink Indonesia President Director Dewa Kadek Rai on Thursday, July 21. 2022.

The airline’s flight QG307 heading to Ujung Pandang returned to Surabaya 15 minutes after taking off because the pilot experienced a health emergency. The plane departed at 6 a.m.

The pilot was pronounced dead in the hospital.

The low-cost carrier ensured that it carried out health checks for all crew on duty before departure and found no irregularities. The plane is also declared airworthy.

The pilot’s body will be flown today to Jakarta for a funeral under the applicable procedures.

“Citilink offers deepest condolences for the passing of our pilot, who is known to be a good person and has high dedication during his time on duty. We also offer our deepest apologies for the inconvenience caused,” said Dewa.

Citilink thus replaced the aircraft and the entire crew. The flight for the same route departed again at 10:46 a.m.
