TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi held bilateral meetings with all leaders of the G7 countries, except United States President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

“The President held about nine bilateral meetings,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, reporting the results of the meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Elmau, Germany, on Monday night, June 27, 2022.

The Indonesian President met with the host German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Charles Michel.

He also held a bilateral talk with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was present as a partner country for the G7 Summit as Indonesia and with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva.

“Other than discussing issues on strengthening bilateral cooperations, issues related to the war in Ukraine and its impact on the global food supply chain are discussed in almost all of the bilateral meetings,” said Retno.

Jokowi did not have a bilateral talk with Biden yet the two of them seemed close at the summit. They were seen having talks and shared laughing during the photo session. In the discussion session, he also sat next to Biden.

Tempo contacted the spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Ministry Teuku Faizasyah for confirmation. He said the Indonesian President had met with the US President at the United States White House on May 12, 2022.

The Indonesian Palace initially reported that Jokowi was also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Senegalese President Macky Sall. But no further information has been issued as of this morning, June 28, or the evening German time.
