TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Makassar on Tuesday which comes as part of his first official visit to Indonesia as Prime Minister. This follows Monday’s meeting with President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, in Jakarta during the Annual Leaders’ Meeting.

The President and Prime Minister both discussed bilateral trade and investment, cooperation on climate and energy, and regional and global interests, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta reported.

While in Makassar, the PM and delegation met with the Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, Australian alumni, and students at Hasanuddin University as well as visited the Eastern Pearl Flour Mill, the world’s fourth-largest flour mill.

Eastern Pearl, like other flour mills in Indonesia, uses high-quality Australian wheat to produce flour used in products like noodles and bread.

“I look forward to building our ties further, including revitalizing our trade relationship and promoting climate, infrastructure, and energy cooperation,” Anthony Albanese added.

Moreover, the embassy stated on June 7 that Albanese’s visit to Indonesia signifies the deep existing collaboration between Eastern Indonesia with Australia and demonstrates the importance of the bilateral relationship for the Australian Government.

“Indonesia is one of our closest neighbors, which is why I committed to visiting as soon as possible. Our two countries have a long history of cooperation and friendship, and my government will work with Indonesia to deepen this,” said Prime Minister Albanese.

The PM was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Penny Wong, Trade Minister Senator Don Farrell, Industry Minister Ed Husic, and Member for Solomon Luke Gosling OAM.
