TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale rocked Dompu in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 10:44 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) updated the magnitude value to 5.0.

The agency’s head of quake and tsunami center, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, said the tectonic quake was centered on the land of Dompu and was at 8.76° South Latitude and 118.40° East Longitude and at a depth of 126 kilometers.

The intermediate quake occurred on normal faults due to subduction activities. The shaking was felt in Dompu and Bima on the MMI III scale and had no potential to trigger a tsunami.

Bambang also confirmed that as of 11:15 WIB, the BMKG did not record any aftershock activities. He appealed to local residents to stay calm and avoid cracked or damaged buildings caused by the quake.
